During the '80s, every weekday morning in the summer, I awakened to Mary Mason on AM 1340 - WHAT Radio in Philadelphia. She was a prominent and politically influential figure in Philly. Ms. Mason was about factual reporting, information sharing, advocacy, and seniors appreciated her opinions on a wide range of local, national, and international topics. Adding to the shortlist of Black women voices on the radio, Ms. Masson blessed Wendy Clark, aka "Lady B," with a weekend slot in the late 1970s on WRBN 100.3 FM. After more than 30 years on the radio, she earned the title "Godmother of Hip-Hop." Lady B was the first DJ to play rap records external of NYC. As a kid, these ladies were part of a squad of women that I would look up to, and I start to borrow from their leadership techniques. I am not staring in the past, but I kind of miss the days when we had radio programming that matter. I mention all this because I am interested in merging successful approaches from yesterday with proven tools used today, Podcasting and Streaming. I want to build a community around Ole Skool music and meaningful discussions. Join me in this effort by sending me your music playlists or conversation topics so that we can start a dialogue. -DoctorKatt
